Esquisse has been instrumental in developing a retail design and planning strategy to create a new flagship store that marks a complete departure for the client group. Housed within one space both brands engage on separate levels around a new soaring multi-storey atrium space. A reinvigoration of the historic building, formerly Whitcoulls, included a new more open shopfront and a new glass awning to modernise and visually open up the new atrium to the street.
Although most of the interior's historic features were lost due to the extensive structural work required a semblance of the original 100 year old building is retained within the new fit-out. Distressed brick, pressed metal ceilings and old wood to make the space look like it had simply stripped back to the original. The look is Industrial and edgy in keeping with the demands of its target market. The result has proven successful by the retailers and customers alike with turnover ‘significantly exceeding expectations’ and plans for new flagship stores underway.
