The ANZ Centre site in central Christchurch is pivotal in the redevelopment of the Town Centre which was razed by the devastating earthquakes the city experienced. The site is bounded by Colombo, Cashel and High Streets, and is opposite the new city carpark. The development comprises of 1,700 m2 of ground floor retail and dining with 12,000m2 of office above over 3 levels.
The design has a strong retail focus onto Cashel and Colombo Streets, wrapping around into High Street where a light and airy atrium houses an internal dining area. An entrance from Colombo Street leading through to the atrium space is an expression of a laneway which connect through to High Street. A cascading glass roof covers the atrium space, and incorporates a ceramic frit pattern to the glass, which will provide shading and visual interest. There will be entry from Colombo Street to a basement carpark.
New Zealand’s largest professional services company, Beca, has signed as the major office tenant leasing 4,100m2, while ANZ Bank is to take signage and naming rights, along with 2700 m2 of office and a ground floor retail space of 400 m2 fronting Cashel Mall.
